Breast Augmentation Beverly Hills
Breast Augmentation with Breast Implants
Breast augmentation with implants is the single most popular cosmetic surgery in the country. It can give your figure better balance, make clothes shopping more fun, and enhance your natural curves. The procedure is performed on an outpatient basis at our surgical center under general anesthesia.
Before Your Breast Augmentation
Before undergoing any surgery, we will need to meet to go over your particular procedure. Because each woman is unique, both physically and in terms of her desired results, it is important that we go over your options. The four questions that you and I will discuss about your surgery are noted below.
4 Breast Implant Questions To Discuss
- Saline implants vs. Silicone implants
- Breast implant sizes
- Location of Incision
- Over or under the muscle
Based on your anatomy and aesthetic desires, we will develop a customized plan for you. Having realistic expectations for your breast augmentation surgery is important. Women often think of breast size in terms of bra cup size – but most women are actually wearing the wrong bra size!
Selecting Your Breast Implant Size:
In our office we have a wide range of sizes that you can put in your bra and test out (the best way to pick your new size). I’ll have you feel the difference between saline and silicone breast implants and we will talk about the differences. Generally speaking, silicone breast implants tend to have a more natural feel and retain their shape better than saline. However, saline breast implants can be filled after being placed, allowing for a higher degree of precision and control over your size.
Incision Location and Implant Placement
The location of the incision and placement of the implants will also play in important part in your final results. The incision can be made in a concealed area, such as the armpit, although this may not be ideal for the type of implant you want. Determining the placement is similar; placing them over the muscle may be easier, but the benefits of placing the breast implants under the muscle include a more natural appearance. This is why we will have to weigh all your options during your consultation.
It is important to me that your consultation is a relaxed, fun experience. I always think back to when I went in for my breast augmentation consultation. I remember feeling confused and overwhelmed, and had trouble picking a size. In my office, there is no rush; I will explain to you in a clear way what your surgical procedure will entail, and answer any of your questions or concerns. I want you to feel excited about your breast implants!
Breast Augmentation Post Operative Care
You must have someone drive you home and stay with you for 24 hours after your augmentation. You will experience some pain the first day or two, although this is easily controlled with pain pills. Some tightness in the breast area is also normal as your body adjusts to the implants.
You can move about freely after surgery. Wear a bra at all times (except when showering) during the first 2 weeks following your augmentation surgery. Avoid heavy lifting for 2-3 weeks. Moderate exercise such as walking or stationary biking is allowed after the first week. Vigorous exercise such as jogging or aerobics may be resumed at 4 weeks. You will most likely be able to return to work within a few days, but you will need to avoid any strenuous activity for at least a couple of weeks.
During recovery, the breasts will be somewhat swollen. Within a few weeks, the actual shape and size of your new breasts will become more apparent. You may notice some asymmetry; however, most breasts are naturally somewhat asymmetrical.
Possible Complications of Breast Augmentation
Delayed wound healing following surgery may occur in women with diabetes, history of radiation, autoimmune disease, or smokers. Other complications include capsular contracture, bleeding, infection, or irregularity of the skin. It is important to have a thorough medical evaluation before your augmentation to address these potential risks. You also need to know that even a small hole in an implant can cause the saline to leak out, resulting in a “flat” implant and necessitating surgical replacement. Silicone can also leak out of the silicone gel implants, though this occurrence is extremely rare. Regular screenings are usually recommended to check silicone implants for signs of rupture. Both silicone and saline breast implants are harmless if ruptured, though they will still need to be replaced.
